Jesse Green was born in Louisiana and grew up working in the farms as a share cropper until the age of fourteen. He then left the delta and moved on up the Mississippi  and made Chicago his new home.

Jesse loved Chicago. In his step father's church, Jesse learned to play and sing . In church, he could play and sing to his heart's content and there Jesse was able to excel and became a proficient singer, bass player and percussionist.

Jesse turned professional in 1963. Soon after turning pro, Jesse joined Otis Rush on the road and toured with him for the next five years.

In 1968, Jesse joined the then up-and-coming Buddy Guy on a very successful national tour that lasted over year and a half .

Upon his return to Chicago, Jesse was invited to go on tour again, this time with Little Junior Parker and Al Green for two more years.

As time went by,  Jesse grew tired of the road and settled down and played mostly in Chicago with Luther Allison, Mighty Joe Young, Lonnie Brooks and other lesser known blues artists. During this period Jesse started a family and enjoyed not being on the road for years on end as he had done for so long. Jesse would later tour again but only for short periods of time mostly as an invited guest at oversea blues festivals in Europe where the blues was gaining much attention. For Jesse, these festivals were lucrative venues both monetarily and artistically. These blues festivals brought together some of the best names in the business and Jesse was there playing drums behind all of them; crowd pleasers! Blues artists such as T Bone Walker, Big Joe Williams, Jimmy Reed, eddy Taylor, Big Walter Horton, Curtis Jones and John Lee Hooker were a common line up.
